SOMBRERO VUELTIAO, 2024

Caña Flecha Palm Fibers

The sombrero vueltiao, a cherished symbol of Colombian culture, is a masterpiece of artisanal skill crafted by the indigenous people of Zenú. Woven from natural palm fibers, its intricate pattern reflects centuries of tradition and identity. Originally worn for protection from the sun and rain, today it symbolizes Colombian heritage and is celebrated in music, dance, and festivals. Despite its international recognition, the sombrero vueltiao remains deeply rooted in its indigenous origins, embodying the resilience and richness of Colombian culture.

For this season, Velásquez reimagined the sombrero with an exaggerated brim to create a new silhouette for the accessory. Working with indigenous artisans from Zenú to custom make the sombreros with natural colours and woven patterns that compliment our AW24 collection.
